The Southern California BAMN Media
Task Force (SCBMTF)
Currently there is no one
officially on the BAMN Media Task Force, which leads us to ask:
Are you a high school
student, college student, or someone interested in getting involved, learning all about
the media, and taking on the exciting task of spreading the word??? If so, help us
put together this Media Task Force!
Goals of the Southern California
BAMN Media Task Force (SCBMTF):
Create a database of print, TV,
radio, internet, and other forms of media that would be hospitable to BAMN's message and
that can serve as a resource for spreading the word about BAMN organizing. Maintain the
database as a way to keep track of efforts to contact these media sources.
To help develop a SCBMTF media
kit with information about BAMN and Southern California organizing efforts.
Develop and disseminate press
releases about BAMN activities.
Identify different kinds of
audiences and develop targeted messages.
Build relationships will people
who work in the media (such as radio talk show hosts at KPFK, or people like Steve
Harvey.)
Watch the mainstream media to
find reporters and writers who look like they might be interested in writing about BAMN.
Contact those reporters and invite them to attend a BAMN event or interview a BAMN
organizer.
Write OpEd pieces and letters to
the editor for a variety of papers and magazines.
Develop a public service
announcement that could be played on local radio stations.
Learn more about creating
strategic media plans. Visit the SPIN
Project website, which has a number of resources and tutorials for this.
