FUNDRAISING TACTICS AND MATERIALS
If your local group is working on
a project, campaign, event, demonstration, flyer distribution, speaking tour, etc.,
getting funds is always an important part of the planning process. In some cases,
asking for the donation of other resources (such as a meeting place, free xeroxing, free
supplies/materials, etc.) may be more effective than asking for money. Here is a list of
ideas for fundraising:
Ask organizations to
contribute money: write a proposal, find a contact within the organization, attend the
organization's meeting, make an announcement and ask that the organization consider
contributing money to and/or participating in the proposed project.
Write a letter
soliciting donations from individuals: choose a group of people to send the
letter to (such as teachers at a school, your relatives/friends, people in the community,
members of an organization, etc.), describe in detail the purpose of the project, the
importance of the cause, how much money is needed how the money will be used, and how they
can go about contributing.
Attend a public event or set up
a table in a public place, and solicit donations while petitioning/handing out flyers.
Raise money by asking for
donations for a specific product (pins, t-shirts, postcards, magnets, flags, hats, signs,
CDs, etc). Have a "suggested donation" for these items.
Hold an event (such as an open
mic, a banquet, party, lecture, concert, etc.) and ask for large donations.
