Strategizing/Organizing - An overview of strategizing ideas and plans for Southern California. Building Coalitions - help make links to the hundreds of Southern California organizations who are on our side. Media Projects - getting positive and frequent media attention is key to building the movement. Help build connections to media groups, radio shows, print media, and other sources. Electoral/Legal Issues - get involved with specific CA initiatives, such as CRENO! Fundraising - ideas, tools, materials, and projects for raising funds. And how to donate money! Speakers - become a speaker, start a speakers group, host a speaker-training session, or invite a speaker to your meeting. Useful Materials/Links - resources, flyers, posters, and other helpful materials and links for organizers. Calendar of Events - action events, opportunities to learn more, events where BAMN should have a presence, etc. Local Contact List - become a BAMN contact for your city/school/ organization, contact a BAMN organizer in your area. Communication - join the Yahoo! SoCal BAMN message board to share ideas and updates with other organizers.

WELCOME to the new strategizing/organizing homepage for BAMN of Southern California!! Pockets of the Los Angeles area have been getting organized to join the national movement for equality and integration, but much needs to be done to unite Southern California in building the New Civil Rights Movement!
GET INVOLVED ASAP!! Intensive organizing has already begun and will continue through the summer and beyond! We need leaders in every school, organization, and community!
DEFEND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, fight against CRENO, organize for equality and justice, battle the growth of the prison system, defend civil liberties, demand equal access to health care, fight for immigrant rights, mobilize for equal access, and empower youth through organizing!

NEWS 5/09/03: University of Southern California undergraduates form a chapter of BAMN. The chaper's organizer, Chrysta Burton (cburton@usc.edu) is also a main coordinator for efforts to organize Southern California as a whole. On May 9th, the USC BAMN chapter hosted a Southern California planning/strategizing meeting, which brought together students leaders from the NAACP, NSBE, the Claremont Colleges, UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, Santa Monica College, and International Polytechnic High School (Pomona).
4/5/03: Forty-four students from the Claremont Colleges attended the April 1st March, after fundraising over $14,000. |
UPCOMING EVENT: Get Involved in Southern California BAMN Organizing, Meeting June 11, Pomona, CA. What: A meeting to bring together high school students, college students, and others interested in fighting for affirmative action, educational equality, and social justice. Why: Because while the government is attacking affirmative action programs, while Ward Connerly continues to promote racist initiatives in California, while the prisons and military grow and take money away from education, social services, and health care, and while we witness numerous attacks on immigrant rights, SOME OF HAVE DECIDED TO STAND UP AND STOP THESE UNJUST TRENDS IN THEIR TRACKS. WE PLAN TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO DEFEND PRINCIPLES OF EQUALITY AND INTEGRATION!! The key is to organize, organize, organize. Building a movement in Southern California will be crucial to reversing trends of growing injustice and inequality. When: Wednesday, June 11, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Who: The meeting is being organized by RAISIN (Raise Awareness of Inequality and Social Injustice Now), an organization affiliated with BAMN (Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action and Integration and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary). Where: International Polytechnic High School (on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona). Unit 13 (Ms. Meyer's Classroom). See directions below. Directions: Use this map on Yahoo to get an idea of where the I-Poly campus is. You will take the 57 freeway to Temple Ave. in Pomona. After Exiting, go West on Temple for a couple of miles. At University Dr. take a Right and take the next Right after that in to the Parking lot. Parking costs $4, but you may also park on Temple Ave. just west of University Dr. (parking there is free and it takes just four minutes to walk to campus). Once on I-Poly's campus (it is a very small campus made up of portable units - like a trailer park). Go to the main office and sign in - your name and reason for coming (RAISIN meeting in Ms. Meyers' classroom). Ms. Meyer's classroom is Unit 13. SEE YOU THERE!!!! |
